The Young Indian Vegetarians have been organising a Christmas Vegetarian Lunch for over 25 years in Croydon. The objective is to promote friendship with the people of Croydon and also to introduce them to delights of Indian vegetarian food. This year the event was jointly organised with the Wanza community of South London on 10th December 2006. Amongst the guests were the deputy Mayor of Croydon, Councillor Graham Bass, Minister for Science, Malcolm Wicks, Andrew Pelling MP, and chief inspector, Dave Stringer of Croydon Police. Around 120 people enjoyed the lunch.
Peter Hopson former mayor of Croydon and Lorraine Hatfield, founder of Croydon Ecology centre. She was presented with the Mahaveer Award for her compassion to animals and vegetarian life style.
